On the night of August 1, Russian forces launched a massive ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. The shelling killed nine people and wounded more than 30 others.

According to the Air Force, a total of 358 airborne attack weapons were detected – 35 missiles and 185 UAVs of various types. These included four Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles launched from the Kursk region and the Rostov region, as well as 27 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles launched from the Bryansk and Kursk regions.

The missile defense team managed to shoot down 154 UAVs and only one ballistic missile. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the low ballistic missile kill rate is due to a shortage of interceptors for the Patriot systems.

The strike damaged multi-story buildings in various districts of Kyiv, particularly in the Solomensky and Darnitsky districts.

Some people died right on the streets while trying to find shelter. Such incidents were particularly observed in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district. Seventeen injured people are in hospitals. Medical personnel are providing them with all necessary care.

In total, seven districts in the capital were affected. 18 residential buildings, a school, the Lithuanian embassy, and infrastructure were damaged.

The enemy also struck twice at the Kyivmedspetstrans organization, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The strikes destroyed five ambulances and damaged another 20 vehicles serving Kyiv’s hospitals.

As a reminder, the Russians launched their previous massive strike on Ukraine on July 30. Lviv suffered the most, but Kyiv was also shelled.
