Missile shortage and the European dome: will Ukraine have time to close the sky?

The world is on the brink of a global shortage of critical weapons, and political games in Washington are jeopardizing the unity of the entire Alliance. Why is the world’s most powerful economy depleting its missile stockpiles, and how is Europe preparing for a scenario where the US is no longer a security guarantor?
These and other questions were answered on the air of “Pryamoy” by military observer Denys Popovych
He also analyzed the chances of creating an anti-ballistic shield over Europe, which was proposed by Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the guest, the issue of the shortage of missiles for air defense systems is becoming critical due to limited production capabilities.
“The overall capacity to produce Patriot missiles to intercept ballistic missiles is 600 per year. So within these limits, you can’t deny yourself anything on the entire planet,” Popovych noted.
He recalled that the production capacity of American factories is barely keeping up with global demand, as orders are also coming from Arab countries. Meanwhile, Ukraine is considering acquiring new-generation complexes, such as SAMP/T, which are better able to deal with ballistic targets.
At the same time, the military observer notes, the idea of creating a joint dome over Europe within a year looks ambitious, but requires significant investments. Popovych is convinced that the success of the project depends on a combination of European finances and the Ukrainian missile school, which still has unique technological developments.
Meanwhile, the White House has formed a list of NATO countries depending on their loyalty to Donald Trump’s wishes. As the analyst notes, such steps force European states to seek alternative ways of defense without relying on Washington.
“Trump determines for himself who is better for him, who is worse for him. In general, I don’t understand this question in principle. What is an Alliance? NATO. It is a defense alliance,” Popovich added.
He recalls that Poland and Romania are among the American leader’s favorites, while Germany may face the withdrawal of US units. In response to such unpredictability, France and Poland are planning joint exercises simulating actions in response to a nuclear threat.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine lacks air defense systems and missiles, and their supply could run out any week depending on the intensity of Russian attacks.
Earlier it was reported that the US began to postpone the supply of weapons to its European allies . This affected even weapons under already signed and paid contracts. The reason was that its own stocks were rapidly decreasing against the backdrop of several conflicts at the same time.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is actively building the psychological and informational foundation for a possible future war against NATO. At the same time, Russia is creating a network of “Trojan horses” by buying up real estate near military bases in NATO countries to launch a coordinated sabotage campaign. The Kremlin has also intensified its propaganda campaign to create a “Narva People’s Republic,” which may indicate that the Kremlin is preparing to attack Estonia.
