For the first time in history, Germany has presented a military strategy that officially recognizes Russia as the main threat to European security. Official Berlin, in particular, plans to transform the Bundeswehr into the continent’s most powerful army.
This is stated in the material of the Deutsche Welle publication.
Thus, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, presenting the document, warned of new Russian threats. “Russia is preparing for military confrontation with NATO through rearmament and considers the use of military force as a legitimate tool for advancing its interests,” the official noted.
The publication notes that the core of Germany’s new military strategy is to counter threats from Russia and transform the Bundeswehr into the strongest conventional army in Europe. According to Germany’s new military strategy, Russia “is creating the preconditions for a military attack on NATO countries,” the defense minister stressed.
According to Pistorius, the Kremlin, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, views military force as a legitimate tool to advance its own interests and is preparing for a direct confrontation with NATO.
The document states that Russia is already waging a hybrid war against the West, using espionage, sabotage, and cyberattacks. According to the new concept, at least 460,000 German soldiers, together with allies, should be ready to repel possible aggression.
In addition, Germany aims to achieve technological superiority and significantly increase its military potential. The strategy specifically envisages that future wars will be fought simultaneously with both high technology and mass means.
The development of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and robotics, along with the use of low-cost drones, has been prioritized. The Bundeswehr also plans to significantly increase the number of high-precision, long-range systems and to build a multi-layered air defense system.
A separate point of the strategy is to strengthen the role of the reserve, which should be fully equipped for rapid deployment if necessary.
At the same time, Berlin officially confirmed its readiness to assume greater responsibility within the Alliance and to continue participating in nuclear deterrence mechanisms.
It was previously reported that the German government plans to soon begin the privatization of SEFE, a former unit of Russia’s Gazprom, which was confiscated after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Recall that in the cold waters of the North Atlantic, a new confrontation is unfolding between Russia and NATO countries, which, in its scale, resembles the Cold War era. According to analysts, Vladimir Putin has directed significant resources to restoring the Russian Navy, including the introduction of modern nuclear submarines.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is actively building the psychological and informational foundation for a possible future war against NATO. At the same time, Russia is creating a network of “Trojan horses” by buying up real estate near military bases in NATO countries to launch a coordinated sabotage campaign. The Kremlin has also intensified its propaganda campaign to create a “Narva People’s Republic,” which may indicate that the Kremlin is preparing to attack Estonia.
