The other day, a post by the co-founder of monobank went viral on the social network Threads, in which he published a photo of a bank client taken during verification, in which a flag similar to the Russian one is visible behind the girl.

As he said, the client contacted the bank for video verification with a question about blocking the card.

“They said that (the card was blocked – ed.) because the head was unwashed…”, wrote Gorokhovsky.

Later, the client herself responded. She assured that the Slovenian flag was hanging behind her, adding that she did not support the aggressor country, and her entire family was supposedly at war.

The network criticized Gorohovsky’s actions, appealing to banking secrecy and Ukrainian legislation. Later, the company’s co-founder commented on the users’ reaction.

“Supporters of Russian peace in Ukraine will have no personal data protection. After 12 years of war, we cannot guarantee any data protection for collaborators,” he replied.

Users on the social network have divided into two large groups — those who support the girl and have already refused monobank services, and those who defend Gorokhovsky.

In a comment to Economic Truth, the National Bank of Ukraine stated that it was analyzing the situation and was awaiting explanations regarding the publication.

“The National Bank, within the framework of its functions of consumer protection and supervision, is analyzing the circumstances of this situation and has sent the bank a request for explanations regarding the circumstances of the dissemination of information that could have been obtained during the identification or verification procedures of a client and may constitute banking secrecy,” the NBU explained.

The National Bank refused to comment on Horohovsky’s actions and emphasized the need to wait for Monobank’s response and establish all the facts.

It is noted that if the bank confirms the requirements of the legislation or regulatory legal acts of the NBU, the regulator may apply the measures of influence provided for by the legislation.
