Potato prices have risen sharply in Ukraine

The Ukrainian market recorded an increase in potato prices due to active demand from retail chains and wholesale companies.
This is reported by the analytical project EastFruit.
According to experts, in the last week alone, farm sales prices have increased by an average of 14 percent. Currently, producers are selling potatoes for 8-15 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the quality of the product and the volume of the batch.
Analysts attribute the price increase not only to increased demand, but also to the behavior of farmers themselves. Some farms are gradually depleting their storage reserves and expect further price increases. Some producers are deliberately holding back sales, focusing on last year’s peak prices, when a kilogram cost up to 30 hryvnias.
At the same time, experts do not predict a repeat of such a sharp jump this season. They emphasize that a significant price increase could stimulate mass imports of cheaper potatoes from abroad.
Despite the current growth, potatoes remain on average 55 percent cheaper than in the same period last year. Stable supply is ensured by well-established internal logistics, which allows for regular delivery of vegetables to large cities.
Further price dynamics will depend on the pace of sales of leftovers and the volume of early potatoes arriving in the spring.
