Today, September 12, Prince Harry arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. He said he wanted to do “everything possible” to help with the recovery of Ukrainian servicemen who were seriously wounded during the war with Russia
The Guardian writes about this.
According to the publication, in Kyiv, Prince Harry and the team of his Invictus Games Foundation plan to present new initiatives to support the rehabilitation of the wounded, with the subsequent possibility of extending assistance to all regions of Ukraine.
“We can’t stop the war, but we can do everything we can to help the recovery process,” Harry told reporters.
He said, “We can continue to show the human faces of this war – those who take part in it and everything they go through. That needs to remain at the forefront of public attention.”
The prince said he was first invited to Kyiv by Olga Rudneva, the founder and CEO of the Superlyudi Traumatology Center in Lviv, which treats amputees. Although he visited the center in April, their chance meeting had taken place months earlier in the United States.
“I bumped into Olga in New York. It was a chance meeting, and I asked her how I could help. She said, ‘You’ll have the most influence if you come to Kyiv.’ Then came the official invitation. The war isn’t very noticeable in Lviv – it’s far to the west. But it will be the first time (in Kyiv – we are).” Prince Harry noted.
During his trip to the Ukrainian capital, the prince is scheduled to visit the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. He is expected to spend time with 200 veterans who have also been invited. The trip to Kyiv will allow him to interact with veterans and see some of the destruction with his own eyes, the prince noted.
He is also due to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
