The escalation in the Middle East will significantly affect the financial climate in the world. At the same time, Russia is interested in increasing oil prices, so it is trying to persuade Iran to strike Saudi Arabia and the UAE in order to further destabilize the situation in this market.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ivan Us, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Expert of Visergrad Insight.

“Let’s see what the further dynamics will be. The main risk for the world oil market is what Iran’s response will be and what it will be aimed at. If it is aimed at American bases, that’s one thing. If it is against Israel, which carried out this strike, that’s another. If it is Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, then this will have a very negative impact on the global economy. Iran has repeatedly threatened that in response to a potential attack on it, it will attack the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” Us noted.

And this, according to the expert, creates risks for the global economy and will be a great gift to countries that export oil and are not located in this region, primarily the Russian Federation.

“Among the main players that supply oil and do not belong to the region is, first of all, the Russian Federation. For them, this will be a great gift. I am more than sure that at this very time the Russians are persuading Iran to strike Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. I hope that the American fleet has enough capabilities to repel this potential strike, this response that will be. Therefore, we will wait,” economist Ivan Us reflects.

As a reminder, oil prices rose by more than 9% on June 13 after Israel struck Iran. This was the largest intraday swing since 2022, after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which caused a sharp increase in energy prices.

As is known, on the night of Friday, June 13, Israel launched a large-scale air strike on the territory of Iran . The targets were facilities related to the Iranian nuclear program, in particular, uranium enrichment plants in Natanz and Fordow, as well as missile bases in Kermanshah and Khorramabad. Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz and other major cities were under attack.

An airstrike on Tehran killed more than 70 people, at least 20 of them high-ranking military personnel . According to Iranian media reports, the attacks killed key military figures in the country, including the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, Chief of General Staff Mohammad Bagheri, and nuclear physicist Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi.

In response, on June 14 , Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones into Israel . Explosions rang out in the skies over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and air defense systems scrambled to intercept the threat. The Israel Defense Forces urged residents to take shelter. Initial reports indicate that at least several people were killed in Israel, dozens were injured, and there was damage.
