Romanian President Calls on Russia to “Not Put Romanians in Danger” During Strikes on Ukraine

Romanian President Nicos Dan said that Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities near the border should not pose a threat to Romanian citizens, and he also admitted that the Russian ambassador could be expelled if similar incidents occur again.

On the Weekend program, Romanian President Nikusor Dan commented on the cases of Russian drones falling on the country’s territory.
According to him, over the past 2 years, Romania has recorded about 20-30 similar incidents. The President noted that about a month ago, a drone carrying explosives fell on Romanian territory, which did not detonate.
“When the Russians strike Ukrainian cities on the other side of the Danube, they must be sure that they will not harm Romanian citizens,” said Nikusor Dan.
The Romanian President also suggested the possibility of expelling the Russian ambassador in the event of further similar incidents.
It is noted that Nikushor Dan’s statement caused a resonance. During the interview, he did not speak about the illegality of Russian strikes on Ukraine and did not call for their cessation. This was noted by journalists and social media users, some of whom criticized such words.
Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in the Romanian city of Galati on May 29. After the impact, a fire broke out, and two people were injured.
Later, NATO condemned the downing of a Russian drone on a residential building in Romania and called the Russian Federation’s actions irresponsible. The Romanian Foreign Minister stated that after the incident with the drone falling on a residential building in Romania, NATO may apply Article 4 on consultations with allies.
By the way, Romanian President Nikos Dan announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta and the expulsion of the Russian consul after a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in Galati. The incident injured two civilians.
