Following the NATO summit in Ankara, the heads of all Alliance member states, including Donald Trump, signed a declaration on providing Ukraine with $70 billion in military aid and weapons in 2026 and 2027.
Among other things, the same declaration recognized Russia as a threat to the West, and support for Ukraine will remain unwavering.
Ukraine is recognised as making an important contribution to transatlantic security, and the Alliance reaffirms its unwavering support for its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
European allies and Canada will provide the bulk of security assistance to Ukraine.
NATO leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of collective defence in accordance with Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.
European allies and Canada will share most of the responsibility for NATO’s defense, along with the United States.
It’s worth noting that the $70 billion consists largely of funds already allocated. Specifically, it includes contributions from the EU in the form of the military portion of the “reparations loan” the EU accepted last year.
As previously reported by Pryamoy, a meeting between Ukrainian and US presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara. During this meeting, Trump promised to grant Ukraine a license to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
