Russia is preparing for a new escalation against Ukraine and all of Europe: what is known

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Russia is preparing for a possible escalation, which could involve a war against Ukraine and the security of the entire region. According to him, the next 7-8 months, especially autumn and winter, will be critical for Ukraine, Poland and other countries in the region.

Tusk announced Russia’s preparations for a possible escalation on August 28 during a meeting with participants of the “Campus Poland of the Future” in Olsztyn. The Polish Prime Minister noted that Warsaw maintains constant contact with the CIA leadership. Therefore, the visit of the agency’s director, John Ratcliffe, to Moscow, according to him, did not come as a surprise to the Polish authorities.

At the same time, Tusk emphasized that some information in the security sector should remain closed, but society should be aware of key threats.

According to the Polish Prime Minister, the situation goes beyond the discussion of Ratcliffe’s trip to Russia. He stated that the latest signals indicate that Moscow is preparing for further escalation.

“It is known that Russia is preparing very seriously for an escalation of tensions – both in the war with Ukraine and in the entire region, and that this autumn and winter should be key for Russia,” Tusk said.

On the eve, August 28, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski called on the country to speed up defense preparations for possible threats from Russia. Sikorski also recalled that Vladimir Putin had previously promised not to attack Ukraine, but Russia subsequently carried out a full-scale invasion.

Previously, NATO intelligence sources have warned that Russia may resort to military provocations in the Baltic states or Poland if it senses the approach of the front to Moscow and St. Petersburg. According to Western sources, this is not a full-scale attack, but rather a possible hybrid attack.

At the same time, a number of European countries have agreed to develop a joint plan for evacuating populations across land borders in the event of war. Representatives of 10 countries — Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Germany and Sweden — have signed an agreement on the protection of civilians in the Baltic Sea region and Northern Europe.
