Russian drones that violated Polish airspace were heading towards a NATO military base in Rzeszow. The incident has raised serious concerns among allies and was the subject of an internal Alliance security briefing.
This is reported by Spiegel .
According to journalists, at least five drones were directed towards the NATO military base. Three of them were shot down by Dutch F-35 fighters, and two more crashed under unknown circumstances.
Of particular concern is the fact that the base in Rzeszow is a key logistics center for the supply of military aid to Ukraine. It is home to about 200 German military personnel and over 100 pieces of heavy equipment.
An anonymous NATO officer told the publication that the drone attack was unlikely to be accidental: the recorded number of devices – from 22 to 25 in one night – makes the version of a “false entry” unlikely.
It also became known that at around 10 a.m., two more drones entered Lithuanian airspace, but official reports about this incident have only now appeared.
Preliminary analysis of the wreckage showed that the drones did not contain explosives. According to NATO, their main task was not to carry out a direct attack, but to test the speed and effectiveness of the Alliance’s response. NATO partners are currently considering the possibility of further strengthening Poland’s air defense system.
As a reminder, after a group of Russian drones entered the airspace of Poland, a NATO member state, a number of Western governments expressed solidarity and concern . Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson condemned the violation of Poland’s border by Russian drones, calling it an “unacceptable act.” Latvian President Edgars Rinkėvičius also issued a statement, emphasizing Poland’s full support. In his opinion, such incidents indicate that Russia’s war against Ukraine has direct consequences for the security of neighboring states. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide described the situation as “deeply worrying,” emphasizing that Norway stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland and other NATO allies.
As reported, on the night of September 9-10, the situation in Eastern Europe escalated again – Russia launched a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine, while a number of enemy drones crossed the air border of Poland . This forced Warsaw to activate air defense forces and use aviation. So last night, 19 Russian drones violated Polish airspace . Polish air defense forces were able to eliminate only four of them. It should be added that later , in addition to seven drones, a missile fragment was also found on Polish territory.
