Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation opened criminal proceedings after media publications about possible violations of the rights of servicemen of the “Skelya” assault regiment.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.
This concerns information published in journalistic materials, which mention alleged facts of violence, abuse of authority, and other possible violations by individual officials of the unit.
“SBI employees have launched a pre-trial investigation into the facts published in the media regarding possible unlawful actions against servicemen of the “Skelya” assault regiment,” the department noted.
To verify the above circumstances, investigators entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – abuse of power or official authority by a military official under martial law, which resulted in grave consequences.
The bureau emphasized that evidence collection and verification of information published by journalists are currently underway.
“Currently, a set of procedural actions is being carried out aimed at establishing an objective picture of the events, verifying the reliability of the published facts, and clarifying all the circumstances set forth in the journalistic material,” the SBI reported.
The department added that after the inspection is completed, a legal assessment will be provided for the actions of all persons whose involvement in possible offenses will be established.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Eastern Region is responsible for procedural management.
As reported, the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelya” responded to a journalistic investigation into the service in the unit and the death of servicemen . The command stated that they were ready to cooperate with the investigation, but urged not to draw conclusions until all checks are completed.
In addition, the Ukrainian army has begun an official review of the actions of the 425th Assault Regiment “Skelya”, which fought in the Pokrovsk area of the Donetsk region at the end of March.
