During the de-occupation of Ukrainian lands in September 2022, security forces from the SBU stormed the headquarters of the then Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny. Such actions by the political elite contradicted the logic of war and hindered the implementation of strategic plans.
Politician and former military serviceman Volodymyr Omelyan analyzed Zaluzhny’s latest statements on “Pryamoy”, pointing out systemic obstacles in managing the army.
He is convinced that certain actions of the political elite were intended to hinder the successes of the defenders.
“Zelensky with his so-called team of corrupt officials and traitors did everything possible to thwart Ukraine’s successes. These facts, which Zaluzhny reported in his article, are very telling facts, because the issue is not about random searches in September 2022, but the issue is that it was in September-October that the successful actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to de-occupy Ukrainian territories were unfolding, and suddenly armed SBU officers burst into the headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief,” Omelyan claims.
He added that in 2023, the situation repeated itself, when the military’s demands for secrecy about the offensive in the south were ignored by government officials, who disclosed details of the operation to the international community. The politician noted that because of this, Russian troops knew about the movement of units in advance.
In addition, Omelyan focused on the losses of the best units in the Bakhmut area. According to his observations, instead of using advantageous heights near the city, the command was directing forces into incomprehensible operations.
He believes that the current president’s team is not guided by state interests, which threatens not peace, but capitulation. The former government official called for not postponing political discussions for later, because the situation on the front requires immediate changes in approaches to governance.
As a reminder, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom Valeriy Zaluzhny reported on differences of views with President Volodymyr Zelensky and tensions in relations in 2022, when SBU officers came to his office with searches. The special service stated that there were no searches, and Malyuk and Zaluzhny personally clarified the situation at that time.
According to lawyer Ihor Golovan, the search of the command post of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2022 was not accidental . He recalled several similar episodes related to cases against the fifth President Poroshenko, when security forces seized secret military documents.
In addition, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy stated that the failure of the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian forces in 2023 was due to the insufficient allocation of resources by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other officials. Zaluzhnyy also emphasized that the success of the operation required a significant buildup of forces and tactical surprise. Instead, the Ukrainian troops were dispersed over a large territory, which significantly reduced their striking power.
At the same time, Zaluzhny’s latest public statements are a signal of unwillingness to be an object for unfounded accusations from the political leadership . An officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation, Ihor Lapin, explained on the air of “Pryamoye” that the military command decided to openly point out the reasons for the difficulties at the front.
