The 2026 World Cup group stage matches have concluded in Groups A, B, and C. The biggest surprise of this stage was the South African team, which unexpectedly advanced to the playoffs from second place.
This sensation occurred in Group A. The South African team unexpectedly defeated South Korea 1-0 and moved into second place, guaranteeing a spot in the round of 32. A historic success for the South Africans!
World Cup host Mexico finished the group stage with a 100% record, beating the Czech Republic 3-0 in the third round. The Czech Republic is eliminated from the tournament.

Group B didn’t offer any major surprises. Switzerland defeated the other World Cup host, Canada, 2-1 in a tight match. However, it was Switzerland and Canada that advanced to the playoffs in first and second place, respectively.
Bosnia and Herzegovina predictably defeated Qatar 3-1 and took third place. Qatar is finishing its participation in the tournament.

In the ranking of third-placed teams in these groups, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with four points, is almost certain to advance. South Korea is in a holding pattern, but with a good chance of remaining in contention. Scotland’s fate, however, depends largely on their results in the other groups. The crushing defeat to Brazil significantly worsened their goal difference.
As a reminder, the eight teams with the best results from the third places in the groups will advance to the playoffs.
On Thursday, June 25, the final round of Group E matches will feature Ecuador vs. Germany and Curaçao vs. Ivory Coast. All matches will kick off at 10:00 PM Kyiv time.
