US President Donald Trump for the first time publicly recognized Russia as the aggressor in the war against Ukraine and effectively admitted the failure of his efforts to quickly stop the conflict.
He said this while talking to journalists.
US President Donald Trump has called Russia an aggressor for the first time since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. He stressed that Moscow bears primary responsibility for the massive losses on the battlefield.
“As soon as information appeared, almost 8 thousand young soldiers died this week in both countries. A little more from Russia. When you are an aggressor, you lose more. In war, the aggressor always loses more,” the American leader said, emphasizing that the Russian army is suffering much greater losses than the Ukrainian one.
Trump also admitted that his expectations for a quick end to the war were not met.
“I thought it would be easy for me, but it turned out to be difficult. The hatred between Zelensky and Putin is incomprehensible,” he said.
The US President added that he was ready to personally participate in the negotiations because, in his opinion, the parties “hate each other so much that they can’t even breathe next to each other.”
Separately, Trump criticized European partners, saying sanctions against Russia remain insufficient. He called on the EU to stop buying Russian oil and gas, noting that the United States no longer imports these energy resources.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he was ready to impose “serious sanctions” against Russia , but would do so only under certain conditions.
It is worth adding that Donald Trump has stated that his patience with Putin is quickly running out , and therefore he may deal a “strong blow” to Russia, which will include sanctions against banks and will affect oil and tariffs.
Recall that Donald Trump recently stated that he is ready to move to the second stage of sanctions against Russia for waging war in Ukraine.
