Yuriy Ignat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that the radioactive elements that the Security Service of Ukraine discovered in the wreckage of the Russian R-60 missile are the norm.

This is reported by News.LIVE .

According to Ignat, he was surprised to hear the news from the SBU, because the R-60 aircraft missile has a core with a depleted uranium alloy.

“There’s no need to scare people here. It seems that everything has already been explained and written down on social media,” the spokesman added.

On the eve of the event, the SBU announced that an increased radiation background was detected in the wreckage of the Russian R-60 air-to-air missile, which the Russian Federation used to attack the Chernihiv region on the night of April 7.

During the examination of a fragment of the drone to which the missile was attached, a gamma radiation level of 12 μSv/h was recorded, which significantly exceeds the natural radiation background and may pose a threat to human health.

The Security Service of Ukraine has initiated criminal proceedings and urged Ukrainians to be careful when discovering UAV parts, missiles, or other ammunition.

Previously, ” Pryamy” reported that counterintelligence and SBU investigators recorded an increased radiation background on the wreckage of a Russian strike drone, with which the Russian Federation attacked the Chernihiv region in April 2026.

The SBU noted that during the inspection of the crash site, an increased level of radiation was recorded.

The Russian Federation has also equipped the Geran-2 drone with an R-60 aircraft missile . This is an adaptation of the Soviet missile to destroy Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters while countering UAVs.

The drone is equipped with two network cameras located in the nose and behind the missile launcher.
