This decision was made after the “Babel” investigation, which discussed possible deaths, torture and abuse of mobilized personnel during training at the regiment’s training centers.
This is reported by “Babel” with reference to a comment from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The General Staff noted that law enforcement officers are currently working in the unit. The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a pre-trial investigation into possible illegal actions against servicemen.
In addition, by decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, a comprehensive commission headed by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff was sent to the regiment.
The General Staff emphasized that Yuriy Harkavyi was suspended from duty for the duration of the inspections. If the facts set forth in the journalistic investigation are confirmed, they promise to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The military command also stated that if abuse of authority or violation of the rights of servicemen is confirmed, it will make appropriate personnel and organizational decisions.
At the same time, the General Staff emphasized that all conclusions will be drawn only after the completion of official inspections and investigations. They also noted that the 425th Separate Assault Regiment continues to perform combat missions in the most difficult areas of the front.
The General Staff added that the regiment’s command is cooperating with law enforcement agencies, the Office of the Military Ombudsman, and media representatives to comprehensively clarify all circumstances.
