The possibility of demobilizing military personnel directly depends on how many new recruits can be recruited into the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by LIGA.net with reference to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Hnatov.

According to him, the issue of releasing military personnel from service remains one of the most difficult. First of all, we are talking about fighters who have been fighting continuously since the first days of a full-scale war or have significant years of service.

Gnatov noted that the authorities are currently working on various options for solving this problem, but it is still premature to talk about large-scale demobilization.

“It’s not worth talking about demobilization in detail now, so as not to mislead people and create false expectations,” he said.

The Chief of the General Staff emphasized that mobilization and demobilization are interrelated processes.

According to him, the more people we can recruit into the army, the more opportunities there will be to release those servicemen who already have grounds for doing so.

At the same time, he made it clear that the current pace of replenishment of the Defense Forces is not sufficient to carry out mass demobilization.

As a reminder, on May 1, 2026, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new stage of army reform, which includes increasing salaries for military personnel, a new system of contracts, and establishing terms of service. One of the key elements of the reform should be the possibility of demobilization on a contractual basis.
