Russia is unwilling to negotiate directly with Ukraine, only with the United States, regarding a ceasefire for May 9. This means there will be no real ceasefire.
Retired Major Oleksiy Getman, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, made this statement on Radio NV . He analyzed the Kremlin’s actions following Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement.
“The probability is very low. President Zelenskyy, among other things, said it’s somewhat strange: Russia is waging a war against Ukraine, yet for some reason Russia is negotiating a ceasefire with the United States. The Russians are doing this because they want to show that we are not an independent country and that they will negotiate with those who govern us from the outside,” explained Oleksiy Getman.
In his opinion, the Russian side wants to negotiate with the US, but in reality, it needs to negotiate directly with Ukraine. However, if Russia agrees to such terms with Ukraine, it will appear weak to the US administration.
“If the Russians don’t agree to this, continuing to push their line as if the United States is in charge here, then there will be no ceasefire,” Getman comments.
In particular, he emphasized that Ukrainian drones could visit Moscow during the parade, but without combat components. For example, they could drop leaflets with specific messages or fly the Ukrainian flag.
“The May 9 attack on Moscow specifically has a more political component, and it is important,” emphasized Alexey Getman.
As a reminder, the Defense Forces have already attacked Moscow . The Russian side reported that approximately 250 drones were in the Moscow region, and many of them were heading toward the capital.
