The mayor of a city in the Odessa region was detained for demanding a bribe of $35,000.

The Security Service of Ukraine detained the mayor of a town in the Odessa region who demanded a bribe during the construction of a new power plant in the region.

The SBU press service reported this.

According to the investigation, the official attempted to extract an improper benefit of $35,000 from a representative of a company with foreign investments.

In exchange for these funds, the mayor promised unhindered approval of permits for the construction of a wind farm in the port city.

We are talking about a facility that is intended to become an alternative source of electricity supply for residential buildings and social infrastructure – hospitals, schools, and kindergartens.

Law enforcement officers detained an official while accepting a bribe.

He is charged under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official occupying a particularly responsible position.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure and removing the official from office is being decided.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The detainee faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Earlier, Pryamoy reported that the chairman of the VLK was detained in Transcarpathia, and nearly 11 million hryvnias in cash were seized from him during a search.

Law enforcement officers also exposed the deputy director of Ukrzaliznytsia’s environmental safety department for accepting a bribe .
