The Sun is preparing a powerful blow: a magnetic storm could affect communications and health

On December 24, the Sun’s activity will be increased, and the Earth will be affected by a magnetic storm with a K-index of 5, which corresponds to the red danger level.
This is reported by meteoagent and the British Geological Survey.
Earth is being exposed to high-speed solar wind coming from a large coronal hole. Scientists predict possible periods before STORM G1, with a gradual decrease in intensity.
“Magnetic storm forecasts may change, as data is updated every three hours,” solar activity researchers note.
A magnetic storm can significantly affect the well-being of weather-dependent people and the elderly. To minimize the negative effect, experts advise adhering to a healthy lifestyle.
What is a magnetic storm?
Magnetic storms are caused by flares and explosions on the Sun, which release large amounts of energy in the form of charged particles — electrons and protons. When these particles reach the Earth’s magnetosphere, geomagnetic activity occurs — the so-called solar storms.
The intensity of storms is measured by the K-index:
1–4 — slight fluctuations, almost imperceptible;
5 and above – red level storms that can affect well-being, the operation of cellular networks, satellites, and radio communications;
7–8 — high-level storms during which auroras are possible.
How magnetic storms affect people
They can cause:
headache, fatigue, stress;
sleep disturbances and decreased concentration;
general deterioration of well-being in weather-dependent and elderly people.
There are no specific medications for magnetic storms, but you can relieve symptoms with conventional methods.
How to protect your body during a magnetic storm
Stick to a sleep and eating regimen — getting enough sleep and eating well is beneficial.
Limit spicy, fatty, salty foods, alcohol, and coffee.
Drink more water and herbal teas.
Go for a walk, preferably outside the city, avoiding direct sunlight.
Do light physical exercises to stay in shape.
Avoid stress and conflicts.
People with chronic illnesses should rest more and keep necessary medications on hand.
A contrast shower in the morning will help you perk up, and a warm bath in the evening will help you relax.
