The escalation around Iran may have a hidden goal related to the war against the Ukrainian state. Since Tehran is an active supplier of technology to the Russian military, in particular Shahed drones, the weakening of this ally will directly affect the Kremlin’s capabilities.
Political scientist Stanislav Zhelikhovsky expressed the opinion on the air of “Pryamoy” that the loss of Iranian support would be a painful blow for the Russian dictator. This would force the Kremlin to consider options for a peaceful settlement more objectively.
At the same time, the international expert believes, Donald Trump may use the threat of destroying Iranian military infrastructure as an argument in negotiations with Moscow.
“Failure to support a country like Iran could hit Vladimir Putin’s regime very hard, because Iran did help Russia, unfortunately for all of us. We remember these transfers of technology to the shaheeds,” Zhelikhovsky noted.
According to him, if Vladimir Putin tries to openly help Tehran in the event of a conflict with the United States, it will completely destroy his chances of improving relations with the new American administration. Trump has already demonstrated a similar approach in cases with other countries, where the main targets were Russia and China.
“Therefore, the Iranian issue becomes part of a big game regarding energy security and territorial concessions from the aggressor country,” political scientist Stanislav Zhelikhovsky summed up.
On the eve of the US President Donald Trump announced that the American fleet is approaching the coast of Iran . Therefore, he called on Tehran to immediately start negotiations on the nuclear deal. Trump stressed that Iran must quickly conclude a deal, and if this does not happen, the country will face much worse blows than those inflicted in June 2025.
In response to Trump’s threats, Iran responded. They assured that they were ready for dialogue with the United States. However, the country is ready to defend itself and “react like never before” if pressure is exerted on it. At the same time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has left the public sphere and is in an underground bunker due to a possible US attack on the Islamic Republic. According to media reports, the decision was made due to growing military tension in the region.
