The US suggests that the attack on a girls’ school in the city of Minab in southern Iran on February 28 may have been carried out by the US military. However, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and there is no final conclusion yet.

According to the agency, citing sources, US military investigators believe it is likely that American forces were responsible for the strike. At the same time, they emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and new evidence may emerge that will point to other perpetrators.
It is noted that previously the Israeli and American forces divided their targets in Iran depending on the type of facilities and their location. On the first day of the war, the US attacked the southern regions of Iran, while Israel struck the western part of the country. The school that was hit is located in the southern Iranian city of Minab.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed on March 4 that the US military is investigating the incident.
“We never strike civilian targets,” said Pete Hegset.
At the same time, BBC Verify journalists reported in their investigation that an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base is located next to the school. According to them, these facilities are now separated by a fence, although until 2016 they were part of the same complex.
Satellite images showed that the IRGC base was completely destroyed, while the school building was partially damaged. In addition, several other buildings in the area were damaged or destroyed.
Iranian authorities said the strike killed 168 people, most of them children, although there has been no independent confirmation of this figure.
A handwritten list of 56 dead, including 48 children aged 6 to 11, also appeared in Iranian media.
Journalists reported that aerial photographs taken 3 days after the attack showed at least 100 freshly dug graves arranged in even rows.
It notes that if proven to be deliberate, the attack could constitute a war crime under international humanitarian law. If US involvement is confirmed, the strike could be one of the largest civilian casualties in decades of US conflicts in the Middle East.
Recall that on February 28, Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran, and also attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon . A state of emergency was declared throughout the country.
