“There will be no hunger”: Chaly urged not to buy food for the winter

Valeriy Chaly, the chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, said that Ukraine is not threatened by famine and food shortages. He urged citizens not to buy food in large quantities, as the country will have enough of its own harvest, and goods will arrive via alternative routes.

Chaly was critical of calls by officials to create significant food stocks for the winter. According to him, such statements can only increase anxiety among the population, while relevant agencies should prevent shortages.
He noted that due to such messages, citizens may start buying goods en masse. At the same time, according to Chaly, Ukraine will have enough of its own new harvest and cereals.
Chaly also noted that the desire to stock up after strikes on warehouses is understandable, but urged not to buy too much, as products can spoil. As an example, he cited last winter, when due to the cold in apartments and problems with utilities, part of the household supplies was lost.
“I don’t know, everyone decides for themselves. But to say that we have threats to food security – no. I myself worked in the NSDC apparatus at one time and I know what threats to food security are. I can roughly orient myself by what goods it could be. That is, firstly, there will be no hunger as long as we have a connection with supplies,” Valeriy Chaly emphasized.
He also drew attention to possible difficulties with the delivery of goods due to strikes on infrastructure and a possible increase in fuel prices. At the same time, he said, Ukraine will continue to receive the necessary goods.
Chaly noted that even in the event of problems with seaports, the supply of products and other goods can be carried out by land from European Union countries.
According to him, even during temporary disruptions due to attacks on warehouses, retail chains can switch to direct supply of goods directly to stores. Therefore, according to Chaly, no shortage of products or famine is expected in Ukraine.
As is known, Russia has destroyed about 90% of the logistics warehouses of retail chains that were used to supply food to Ukraine. At the same time, a systemic shortage of basic products is not expected, although the assortment and logistics may change.
Recall that on the morning of August 27, Russian occupation forces attacked the Roshen logistics facility in the village of Chubynske, Boryspil district, Kyiv region, with seven drones . As a result of the strike, a warehouse of finished confectionery products was destroyed.
By the way, as a result of the massive night attack by Russia on Kyiv and the region, at least 13 people were killed and another 40 were injured. In Boryspil, Kyiv region, the Russian attack fell on food warehouses and Red Cross facilities . Fires are still burning in the area, which are being extinguished by rescuers.
