“They Made Us Together”: How Ukraine Has Changed in the Seven Years Since the Fateful Elections

Exactly 7 years ago, the first round of the presidential election took place. Back then, you could still choose your own leaders, right? Sloviansk and Kramatorsk were deep rear cities.

Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, and Lviv were not bombed, the heat was not turned off during the cold weather, and the word “blackout” was not even known yet.

Back then, in 2019, planes were still flying, can you imagine? You could get to any country in Europe in 2-4 hours – not 24 hours.

And men didn’t need the highest permission of the authorities to travel abroad. It’s hard to believe, but you could get to the warm sea at any time, and even on any day – as long as you had the money.

But you could even walk around the city freely at night. It was true, I remember that. And no one was forced to leave their family and loved ones – for years.

A lot has changed in these 7 years.

Now the Ukrainian people do not have the right to elect their leaders. And they will not have it for a long time. Because as long as the war continues, there will be no elected government. And the temporary tsars of “wartime” are very afraid of elections, so they are dragging out the war in every possible way.

The long-standing movement “for gender rights” is lying forgotten in a corner, as rights and freedoms are measured to citizens solely on the basis of gender.

The one who then, in 2019, avoided military service in every possible way and even mocked it is now the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. And he is furiously “fighting evaders.”

But even the corrupt people back then were somewhat puny – compared to the current monstrous “friends of the president.”

Unfortunately, not everyone realizes that all these changes were a consequence of how the majority of Ukrainians voted in 2019. Who believed in “peace in Putin’s eyes.” In “let’s meet in the middle.” Who was moved by such sweet promises “If I break the law, I will resign.” And this beautiful “It won’t get any worse”?

Well, it didn’t get any worse? Greetings to you, citizens of 2019 from the year 2026. The 13th year of the war, the 5th year of the full-scale invasion of the criminal federation.

After the murders of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, the virtual liquidation of democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of movement, rampant corruption, and finally, “45 dollars a pop.”

Congratulations to everyone on the 7th anniversary of the beginning of the endless reign of a gang of narrow-minded marauders.

You made us together, it’s true. And even yourself.
