Trump and Putin: The Call That Changed Nothing

Trump’s alleged two-and-a-half-hour “conversation” with Putin raises more questions than it answers. There were no official statements, no visible consequences, and no clear agenda. So, what really happened during this mysterious exchange — and did it even happen at all?
.
Against this backdrop, the Russian State Duma has ratified a strategic partnership agreement with Venezuela. At the same time, Trump is sending troops to the Venezuelan coast, while Republicans are declaring that he will “overthrow Maduro as an illegitimate president.” It is hard to imagine Trump ignoring such an overt show of defiance — a challenge to his own claim to global leadership.
So, it seems clear that no meeting will take place. Either Putin is afraid, or Trump has no desire to listen to hours of vague, rambling explanations without any concrete commitments. After all, it is difficult to understand what the two could have discussed for two and a half hours without leaving any trace of results.
Meanwhile, Trump’s attention has shifted to Gaza — on the brink of another military escalation — and to Venezuela, where preparations for either a violent regime change or a direct intervention appear to be underway. Both situations are far more tangible and controllable than dealing with Putin’s inflated ambitions and chronic avoidance of responsibility.
It only remains to hope that Trump will finally realize that Putin is deceiving him again and again. And that the United States will, at last, adopt a consistent anti-Russian course — not just in rhetoric, but in action: with “Tomahawks,” new sanctions, and real deterrence.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump recently had a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. During the talks, the presidents agreed to organize a summit in Budapest. However, the groundwork for this meeting was to be provided by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
It later became known that the expected talks between Rubio and Lavrov, which were supposed to take place this week, have been postponed indefinitely. According to journalists, Washington concluded that the Kremlin’s position on the war against Ukraine has practically not changed.
As reported by “Pryamyi”, the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Budapest is currently suspended. According to media reports, although the interstate dialogue between Rubio and Lavrov took place in a constructive tone, both sides, according to President Trump, are not yet ready to move on to organizing a summit.
