Trump and Putin meeting: which territories of Ukraine plan to give to the Russians

During a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin, it is planned to discuss territorial concessions to Ukraine. It is assumed that Russia may leave Kharkiv and Sumy regions in exchange for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donetsk region.
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Dmytro Snegirev, a military-political analyst and co-chair of the public initiative “Prava sprava”.
According to him, the intensification of hostilities in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions is aimed at creating the prerequisites for negotiations on the so-called “territorial exchanges.” Moreover, such proposals may be made that the Russians leave the territories of these two regions and do not scale up the actions at the expense of the Dnipropetrovsk region, and instead the Defense Forces of Ukraine withdraw from the territory of the Donetsk region.
“It is worth saying that the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions will remain outside the brackets. Russia does not claim those parts of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions that are controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This will be presented as a compromise. Moreover, the situation with the Zaporizhzhia NPP will most likely be transferred to a third party, namely the American one. I do not exclude that there will be an international consortium with the participation of three parties: Ukraine, Russia and the United States. The relevant work of the NPP and power supply will be divided between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and the American side will receive the money,” explains Snegirev.
He emphasized that the relevant scenarios have already been voiced by the American side in Western media outlets, which have carried out a controlled leak of information regarding the possible nature of the negotiations.
At the same time, the public figure recalled the events surrounding the capture of Lysychansk and the liberation of Kherson in 2022, calling it an “exchange of territories.”
“Lysychansk is located on commanding heights, it could have been held for years. But they didn’t hold it because there is the largest oil refinery in Europe, which belongs to Russian owners and structures close to Putin… And then what happens happens. The occupiers withdraw their group from Kherson to the left bank without any problems under the full fire control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Who will explain to me how they withdrew heavy armored vehicles without any losses and personnel? Exchange of territories – let’s finally call things by their names,” recalls Snegirev.
He believes that a similar situation may develop around Pokrovsk, when there are certain agreements with the Russian occupiers.
“And the capture of Avdiivka, which they have not been able to capture since 2014, and then there is an incomprehensible nature of the rotation of the personnel of the Defense Forces of Ukraine? And what do we have next? We have the loss of Avdiivka, a key defensive point. And after that, the defense of the Defense Forces of Ukraine itself crumbled in the Donetsk direction. And we had further advance of the occupiers in the direction of Pokrovsk… No one is saying that this will be an exchange of territories. I am more interested in how it will be presented. Again, the incomprehensible nature of the rotation of personnel?” – ponders Dmytro Snegirev.
Bloomberg previously reported that the US and Russia are preparing a ceasefire agreement that would formally establish Russian control over the occupied territories . At the same time, American and Russian officials are working on an agreement for a planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which is likely to take place next week.
Putin is demanding that Ukraine hand over the entire eastern part of Donbas and Crimea to Russia. This would force Volodymyr Zelensky to order the withdrawal of troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are under Kyiv’s control.
Moreover, as The Wall Street Journal writes, US President Donald Trump may recognize Russian control over part of the Ukrainian regions that are currently under occupation.
Under the terms being discussed by officials, the Russian Federation is committed to halting its offensive in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions along the contact line. However, it is not yet known whether the Russian army is ready to give up the captured territories.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin may meet as early as next week to discuss a potential peace deal regarding the war in Ukraine. However, analysts say the parties have fundamentally different positions, and the likelihood of achieving a real truce remains low.
At the same time, on the eve of the meeting between Putin and Trump , Ukraine and Europe presented their own plan to the United States , which should become the basis for negotiations with the Russian side.
