Trump is preparing the US withdrawal from NATO: diplomat named key prerequisites

President Donald Trump may begin the formal process of withdrawing the United States from NATO, a move seen not only as a threat to the alliance’s solidarity but also as part of a domestic electoral strategy to boost his approval ratings.
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Valeriy Chaly, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, diplomat and Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center.
“Donald Trump will most likely begin the procedure for withdrawing from NATO. And now I can confirm this even more, because he may have already had some kind of internal survey of how his voters will react to this,” the diplomat noted.
He noted that although Trump claims that the consent of legislators is unnecessary, the current NDAA law prohibits the president from unilaterally making such a decision until October 1. Using NATO as a lever of influence over Europe creates risks for transatlantic unity, and such steps only play into the interests of Russia, which seeks a split between partners, Valeriy Chaly emphasized.
On the eve of the meeting, US President Donald Trump said that the United States no longer needs the help of allies for the operation to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the American military has allegedly already achieved significant success by destroying the army, navy, air force, air defense systems of Iran, as well as the country’s leaders, so Washington does not need NATO’s help.
Earlier, the United States received refusals from NATO member countries to participate in a military operation in the Middle East. At the time, this outraged Trump, who emphasized that he was not surprised by the reaction of the allies, as he had always considered NATO a structure that was not ready to help the United States.
Recall that against the backdrop of the third week of the US military operation against Iran, allies are pressuring President Donald Trump to explain the goals and timing of the conflict. At the same time, the White House, according to sources, is not providing the allies with detailed information about further plans for the war.
