Ukraine calls for urgent UN Security Council meeting over massive strike on Kyiv

After the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on May 24, Ukraine initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. The Ukrainian side also requested a joint meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation and the OSCE Permanent Council.
This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga.
According to him, after Russia’s night attack, Ukraine immediately appealed to international organizations with a request to hold urgent meetings.
Sibiga added that he instructed Ukrainian missions to international organizations to make maximum use of multilateral mechanisms in response to the Russian missile strike on Kyiv.
The minister emphasized that the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and UNESCO must give a decisive response to Russia, which, according to him, is trying to compensate for the lack of success on the front with terror against the civilian population.
Sibiga stated that Russia is attacking civilian infrastructure and destroying residential buildings, schools, museums, and critical infrastructure facilities.
“This situation requires a strong and coordinated response from the international community,” he said.
The Foreign Minister also called on international partners to take decisive joint action to deter Russia and achieve a just and lasting peace.
The day before, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the massive Russian attack on Ukraine and announced new assistance to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses . She stressed that the European Union’s support for Ukraine continues.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the consequences of Russia’s massive nighttime attack on Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine . The strikes killed 4 people and injured about 100.
As is known, on the night of May 24, Russian troops carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine , using missiles and kamikaze drones. Kyiv suffered the greatest destruction – damage and fires were recorded in all districts of the capital.
By the way, three garages were damaged as a result of the Russian strike with an Oreshnik missile on Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region.
