Ukrainian pig iron exports collapsed to zero in August

Ukraine did not export a single ton of pig iron in August. Shipments have completely stopped due to the blockade of Black Sea ports, and metallurgists are warning of the risk of losing foreign markets.

This was reported by GMK Center, citing its own calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

According to the results of January-August, Ukraine exported 1.03 million tons of commodity pig iron . This is 16.4% less than in the same period in 2025.

Almost the entire main volume went to the USA – 900.6 thousand tons , which is 11% less year-on-year.

Deliveries to Turkey, on the other hand, increased by 88% to 83.2 thousand tons . At the same time, exports to Italy decreased by 77% to 26.5 thousand tons .

In eight months, Ukraine received $413 million from pig iron exports, which is 15% less than last year.

GMK Center warns that a prolonged halt in sea shipments could cost Ukrainian manufacturers part of their presence in foreign markets.

The situation is also complicated by a sharp decline in domestic production. In August, steel output in Ukraine fell by 57.3% year-on-year , and pig iron production fell by 65.6% .

Recall that in September, Russian strikes damaged Zaporizhstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih . There were deaths and injuries at the enterprises, and production facilities were damaged.
