Until the thunder strikes: why the government ignores the collapse of the monomajority

The collapse of the “servants” and, as a result, the incapacity of the parliament are increasingly being analyzed by journalists, experts, and partners in an attempt to find a way out. After all, a non-functioning parliament in times of war and in the face of an impending budget catastrophe is too serious.

But the “servants” have not yet felt this seriousness. They are demanding that NABU and SAPO disassociate themselves from them, and that Volodymyr Zelensky share political responsibility for unpopular decisions with them, or at least have a friendly conversation with them.

However, the latter is held as the last trump card – the “servants” will be patted on the back before a decision is absolutely necessary. For the IMF, for the EU, or for Zelensky.

Each time, Volodymyr Zelensky will have to be more eloquent; the leadership of the “servants” will have to sew new “bonuses” into the projects. But at the same time, it is very dangerous if they find “arguments” against the NABU and the SAPO. Because corruption losses during the war are no less dangerous than the paralysis of the Verkhovna Rada.

Zelenskyy believes that they will cope. No one is going to declare the collapse of the “servants” and the end of the “monomajority”.

Moreover, despite the approaching budget catastrophe, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is generating new initiatives to distribute funds. Because he retains the image of a “protector of the people.”

Since 2019, the government has moved from crisis to crisis – and each one, with its scale, has pushed aside the issue of responsibility. Ukraine is being helped – and it seems to the government that it will always be so.

But every time, Ukraine pays a very high price – and most frighteningly, with its lives – for every missed opportunity to make an effective, rather than a “just-in-time” decision, to pool its own resources and capabilities, and to surprise the world again.

Instead, the authorities are happy with everything for now. Until the thunder strikes.

Earlier, the first deputy head of the Servant of the People faction, Andriy Motovylovets, said that it has become much more difficult for the party to collect votes in parliament, and its stable core has shrunk . According to him, previously the faction leadership could count on approximately 180 deputies who consistently supported the vote, and now the “core” consists of 111 deputies.
