February 24 marks exactly four years—1,462 days—since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Here’s a look at the key numbers and projections.

By this indicator, the Great Russo-Ukrainian War has already exceeded the duration of the German-Soviet War of 1941–1945, which lasted 1,418 days. This mark was surpassed on January 11, 2026.

On April 11, 2026, the duration of World War I, which lasted 1,508 days, will be surpassed.

World War II lasted 2,194 days. The Great Russo-Ukrainian War will cross this mark on February 26, 2028.

If we count from February 20, 2014—the beginning of the Russian invasion of Crimea—then as of February 24, 2026, Russian aggression against Ukraine has been going on for 4,387 days. This is twice as long as the entire Second World War.

The formal end of the war is a peace treaty that defines the conditions for further coexistence between the states. The signing of such a document seems unlikely in the near future.

In the medium term, only the cessation of active hostilities is possible.

But even in 2028, complete peace is not guaranteed.

The full-scale war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine has led to a broader global confrontation, which can be called World War III, in which Russia is preparing to attack European countries.
In the future, hostilities could spread to the Baltic states and Poland, potentially reaching Germany. This would signify the collapse of the current world order established after World War II. New alliances would likely emerge to counter Russian aggression.
World War III would determine the new world order and the terms of a global peace treaty that, in one way or another, would bring an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, this is not likely to happen anytime soon.
