Politician and former military serviceman Volodymyr Omelyan expressed sharp criticism of the state leadership regarding initiatives to hold elections during the war.
On the air of “Pryamoy”, he called such actions an attempt to destabilize the country instead of focusing on a victory strategy. According to Omelyan, the preparation of regulatory acts “on the knee” harms Ukraine’s reputation among partners.
The studio guest emphasized the danger of manipulations with electoral legislation: “Complete chaos, the ultimate goal of which is simply to completely destabilize Ukraine. Instead of clearly defending our position, instead of having a clear plan of what to do, and the plan we have had victories approved by the devil for all these four years of war, we are once again sculpting some fool on the knee.”
Omelyan warned that limiting the participation of the military or applying sanctions against opposition candidates would lead to falsification of the results. He called on the authorities to listen to experts in order to avoid internal conflicts. The politician believes that political interests, not the issue of the survival of the state, are now coming to the fore.
As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the people’s deputies to develop a bill on the possibility of holding elections during martial law. The initiative does not involve preparation for the elections, but was a reaction to statements by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.
It should be noted that there are currently no draft laws or bills in Ukraine that would regulate the holding of elections in wartime. However, the Verkhovna Rada is ready to prepare all necessary documents to ensure a democratic process even during hostilities.
In addition, as stated on the air of “Pryamoy” by the head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Oleksiy Koshel, the introduction of digital tools for expressing will could lead to a complete disruption of the electoral process in Ukraine and would become a kind of gift to the Kremlin . At the same time, organizing voting in conditions of constant missile strikes and drone attacks is a practically impossible task, the CVU added.
