He wrote about this in Telegram .

Zelenskyy said that he had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. At the beginning of the conversation, the Ukrainian leader congratulated his American counterpart on his birthday and American Army Day.

According to Zelensky, during the conversation, the parties discussed a number of key issues related to Russia’s war against Ukraine, its causes, diplomatic prospects, and the positions of international partners.

“I just spoke with the President of the United States of America – with President Trump. I congratulated him on his birthday, on the day of the American army: today is two holidays in America, and we had a very good conversation with him. There were not only greetings – many key topics: about the war, its roots, diplomatic opportunities, and the positions of our partners. We talked for a long time. In great detail,” Zelensky said.

The President of Ukraine noted that the main wish of Ukrainians is to achieve a just peace together with the United States and other partners.

“We have one wish for President Trump – for all Ukrainians – that we finally succeed in achieving peace, that we can achieve this success together with America, together with all our partners,” Zelensky said.

He also thanked the United States for the support Ukraine received during the war. Zelenskyy specifically drew attention to Trump’s statements regarding Crimea.

“And President Trump’s absolutely correct words today were, in particular, about our Crimea: it was with the seizure of Crimea by Russia that it all started and that if there had been strong leadership then, the whole war simply would not have happened,” Zelenskyy said.

Following the conversation, the presidents agreed to hold a personal meeting during the G7 events in Europe.

“I thanked the President of the United States of America for all the assistance provided by the United States. We agreed on our meeting with him: in the coming days, the G7 formats will be in Europe, of course, Ukraine and our defense, our opportunities to come to peace will be among the main topics,” Zelensky said.

By the way, European leaders plan to discuss with US President Donald Trump possible ways to diplomatically resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine during the G7 summit in France. One of the key topics will be the potential format of future peace talks.

It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet in France on June 16 as part of the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains . The leaders are expected to meet during working sessions, although separate bilateral talks are not planned.
