Bankova’s reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what will actually happen to service terms?

Since yesterday, there has been a lot of discussion on the Internet about the new “improvements” for the military that Bankova has rolled out. And among all these beautiful phrases and big numbers, I personally did not see the answer to a simple question… And what will REALLY happen with the terms of service, which only the lazy are not talking about now?!

As a former company commander, that is, a person who spent a “little time” in the army, I understand perfectly well that all such calls are nothing more than political PR. Because in order to release one combat unit tomorrow, you need to draft a person into the army yesterday. Or rather, the day before yesterday. Draft, not wait for the person to come on his own. That is, twist the issue of mobilization (and who needs that considering the ratings?). Moreover, this person needs to be trained and only then run in combat operations. So that the combat unit that is being released, because it has been in service since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, is replaced by a combat unit. Or better yet, two…

So, to the terms of service. Among the beautiful slides, I saw only a mention of contracts. In particular, “infantry”, 6-10 m

s. But the contracts… just combat, only 24 months. So, do I understand correctly? In order for a soldier, sergeant or officer who has been in the service since 2022 to have a chance to be released, does it have to be signed? And if you suddenly get tired to the point of hiccups and, accordingly, dream of being released (because you have been in the service for more than four years), then sign a contract… an infantry one! And then, in six months… Ahhhhhh, don’t you want an infantry one? Well, then sign a contract anyway, “just combat”, that is, for another two years?

ps I don’t need to sing “war songs” about how there are a lot of people in the army who “dream” of signing a contract. Among those I know (and these are, believe me, some of the best people in this country), there are a lot of people who dream of something completely different. Being with their family, without looking at the calendar, because, unfortunately, the vacation is ending again, before it has time to begin.

And one more thing… We never learned to speak adult language with the nation, that is, the army. Again, a total desire to fuck, pretending to be a delicious candy.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced a comprehensive transformation of military service , which includes new contracts with clear deadlines, increased payments, and guaranteed deferrals after completion of service. The changes also include automatic transfer between units and simplified return of servicemen who voluntarily left the service.

At the same time, as President Volodymyr Zelensky reported, large-scale changes are being prepared in Ukraine for military personnel . The authorities plan to increase payments, introduce new contracts for infantrymen, simplify transfers between units, and expand opportunities for attracting foreign volunteers to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
