“Beautiful trick” with drones: how Ukraine helps the US in the Middle East

Ukraine has sent a team of specialists and equipment to protect US military bases in Jordan after Washington requested it. This move allows the Ukrainian side to restore its presence in the global media space and demonstrate solidarity with partners, despite its own difficult security situation.
This was reported on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ivan Stupak, a military analyst, SBU employee (2004-2015).
“But with such a truly spectacular trick, we have returned to the world’s headlines and are being talked about again,” Stupak noted.
According to him, the mission of several dozen servicemen will last approximately two weeks. The main goal of the trip is to train foreign colleagues in methods of detecting and destroying enemy drones. Stupak noted that this gesture of goodwill could have far-reaching consequences. Kyiv is counting on mutual assistance after the end of the regional crisis.
The analyst suggests that such cooperation could increase pressure on the Russian Federation from the Arab monarchies. In particular, it is about the possibility of limiting channels for circumventing sanctions through Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.
At the same time, as Stupak noted, Western defense corporations are focused on manufacturing extremely expensive equipment, ignoring the effectiveness of budget drones. The former SBU employee pointed to a significant gap between the strategies of leading countries and the real needs of the modern front, where cheap means are capable of destroying objects worth millions of dollars.
“They have really valuable equipment, but it burns very quickly from the impact of these small, cheap means. They are still underestimating it,” Stupak emphasized and explained that in Europe and the United States, Ukrainian methods of warfare are often perceived as forced “patches” due to a shortage of shells, rather than as a new technological paradigm.
Despite this position of lobbyists, interest in Ukrainian anti-drone developments is growing. The military analyst is convinced that attracting investment in such technologies can change the perception of Ukraine as a country that only asks for help, to a state that offers unique defense solutions for the whole world.
As a reminder, representatives of the US Department of Defense visited Ukraine to discuss the possible use of Ukrainian experience in countering drones. The point is the development of cheaper means of intercepting drones that can be used by the American side.
In addition, the US has officially asked Ukraine to share its experience in intercepting Iranian Shahed strike drones. This is because Iran’s rapid counterattack using cheap and easy-to-produce drones after the start of the US-Israeli military campaign demonstrated the vulnerability of the US and its regional allies.
It later emerged that Ukraine had sent an expert team and interceptor drones to help protect US military bases in Jordan. The decision came after the United States requested assistance. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US had requested assistance from Ukraine on March 5.
