Court orders preventive measure for two soldiers of the “Skelya” regiment in torture case
The Fortechny District Court of Kropyvnytskyi remanded in custody two servicemen of the “Skelya” regiment, who are suspected of illegally detaining, beating, and torturing their comrades.
This is reported by Suspilne.
The court first considered the motion regarding a 28-year-old sanitary instructor of a medical company. The prosecution requested that he be taken into custody, while the defense insisted on a more lenient preventive measure.
The suspect pleaded not guilty. He stated that the victims had allegedly slandered him, and called the accusations of torture groundless.
The court granted the prosecutors’ request and ordered him to be held in custody for 60 days without bail. After the hearing, the soldier announced that he would appeal the decision.
The court also chose a preventive measure for the 29-year-old regimental clerk. He also did not recognize the suspicion as well-founded and asked not to send him to a pre-trial detention center.
However, the court made a similar decision – 60 days in custody without the right to post bail. Unlike the other defendant, he said that he does not plan to appeal.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, in May 2026, two servicemen were taken to the unit’s medical unit after being discharged from the hospital for violating the regime . The investigation believes that the suspects decided to punish their comrades on their own: they inflicted numerous blows on them, and then illegally detained them in an outbuilding and continued to abuse them.
As a result of the beating, one of the victims suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken nose, and other injuries. According to the investigation, the other was held for almost a day, after which he was also hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury, bruises, and hematomas.
Both servicemen were informed of suspicion under articles of torture and violation of the statutory rules of relations between servicemen, which was accompanied by beatings and bullying.
As a reminder, the Babel publication reported that at least 26 recruits of the 425th separate assault regiment “Skelya” died from the end of 2025 to the spring of 2026.
Subsequently, the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelya” responded to a journalistic investigation into the service in the unit and the death of servicemen . In addition, Yuriy Harkavy, commander of the 425th separate assault regiment “Skel”, was suspended from duty for the duration of the service checks. This decision was made after the “Babel” investigation, which discussed possible deaths, torture and abuse of mobilized personnel during training at the regiment’s training centers.
By the way, in the 425th separate assault regiment “Skelya” during the inspection , a group of instructors was identified who were associated with the abuse of servicemen at training grounds . However, according to the Office of the Military Ombudsman, no measures were taken to hold these people accountable.
It should be noted that the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelya” responded to new information in the media about seven more deaths of mobilized personnel during exercises . The unit stated that they strive to reduce non-combat losses to zero and are cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
