“Donnie, Take Your Pills”: Trump’s Take on Ukraine’s Elections Shows How Out of Touch He Really Is

The insufferable Donnie forgot his pills again, delivering an interview that even his own advisers could only hope would be taken lightly. What he offered to Politico was not foreign policy, but a geopolitical bedtime cartoon: Crimea surrounded by four oceans, Ukraine supposedly losing, Zelenskyy “having to accept things,” and elections demanded “immediately.”

Well, of course. War, missiles, shelling, mobilization, millions of displaced people—these are minor details. The main thing is that Donnie feels comfortable in his own fantasies about the “great deal.” The Constitution of Ukraine? International law? Forget it—Donnie believes all that is secondary when inspiration strikes.

But the climax of the comedy is his demand to hold elections immediately. I just imagined it.

There’s a trench. The ground is wet, dugouts are shattered, and “Smerch” rockets whistle overhead. And then, ducking from the bullets, an agitator crawls through the craters:

– Guys, let’s vote against Zelenskyy! Don’t forget your pen, your ballot, and if you’ve lost your passport, let’s dig it out of the mud!

This is not the Crimea that Donnie paints as a glossy peninsula surrounded by four oceans. The reality here is far less romantic—there is war. But for Donnie, Ukrainian realities are like Google Maps with the Internet turned off: there are outlines, but zero content.

The funniest part? He keeps lecturing us on democracy while simultaneously praising autocratic friends in Europe. Admiration for Orbána cautionary example for Ukraine. The American school of double standards and bargain-bin philosophy, all in one interview.

So, Donnie, please:

• Take the pills.

• Read the Constitution of Ukraine.

• And stop splashing oceans where our boys are holding the front.

At least someone in this story has to stay grounded in reality.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump has made several controversial statements about Ukraine, Crimea, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In particular, he claimed that Crimea is “surrounded on four sides by ocean” and stated that the peninsula was allegedly “given” to Russia by former US President Barack Obama.

Additionally, Trump stated that it is time for Ukraine to hold presidential elections.”  He believes that the Ukrainian authorities are “using the war to avoid holding elections,” but, in his opinion, Ukrainians should be able to vote.   

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is prepared to hold elections following US President Donald Trump. When asked to comment on Trump’s stance, Zelenskyy replied succinctly: “I’m always ready.”
