The so-called peace plan for Ukraine attributed to US President Donald Trump may actually be a Russian initiative, the details of which the American leader is probably not even familiar with.
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Manhattan University professor Igor Eisenberg.
He suggests that the proposal was presented to Trump by his associates, and he approved it without delving into the substance.
“American senators say that this was not an American plan at all, that it was a Russian plan. So we can conclude that Trump, probably in his subconscious, constantly wants to force Ukraine to do something, because he no longer has patience, he wants to wait until he can build his relations with Putin the way he would like,” Eisenberg noted.
The studio guest cites information from the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post, as well as statements by senators from both parties, who unanimously speak of the Russian origin of the plan. According to him, Trump’s main motive is an obsessive desire to build a personal relationship with Putin, whom he mistakenly considers a “close friend.”
The professor also recalled the words of former Trump national security adviser John Bolton, who repeatedly pointed out that neither Putin nor Kim Jong-un consider Trump a friend. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of international relations, according to Eisenberg, and is the driver of the American leader’s impulsive and often unfounded decisions regarding Ukraine.
Recall that the previous day, a meeting of the US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Geneva , during which the parties discussed the updated American peace proposal. The negotiations showed significant progress and agreement on positions on further steps. At the same time, the diplomats changed the “peace project”, reducing it to 19 points .
After the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva, the US peace plan for Ukraine has undergone significant changes. According to sources, the document will no longer contain 28 points – it will be shortened and focused only on issues related to bilateral relations between Kyiv and Washington. Other topics, in particular, economic contacts between the US and the Russian Federation, are being moved to separate formats – US-Russia and US-EU.
Earlier, the Russian dictator’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov reported that the Kremlin had not received official information about negotiations involving the United States, Ukraine, and European countries in Geneva. This means that Russia is not yet planning to hold talks with the American delegation on Ukraine.
