Germany is modernizing Europe’s largest car port in Bremerhaven to transport military equipment and prepare logistics in case of a potential military conflict in Europe. The port is planned to be renovated with 1.35 billion euros, and the facility will be adapted to transport Leopard heavy tanks.

This is reported by Bloomberg .

The North Sea port, previously used mainly for exporting Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen cars, is now being invested in strengthening its cargo docks to handle military equipment, including 60-ton Leopard tanks, according to journalists.

The project has already been included in Germany’s budget for 2026. The material notes that Berlin is preparing for a possible large-scale conflict in Europe, and the country’s central location and its industrial resources should become the basis for providing troops and allies with equipment and logistics.

Matthias Magnor, CEO of BLG Logistics, said that the decision to modernize the port was an important step for the company.

“This was a turning point for us. We are currently in very positive negotiations and hope to make the first significant investments this year,” said Matthias Magnor.

It is noted that the German army is trying to more actively involve the private sector to solve problems with logistics and transportation. This includes cooperation with companies that have warehouses, railway platforms, ports and transport infrastructure.

At the same time, Germany acknowledges that the country has significant infrastructure problems. In particular, about 5,000 bridges need repair, and the system of interaction between the military and private companies remains complicated due to bureaucratic procedures.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during the presentation of a new military strategy on April 22, stated that the country is changing its approach to security issues.

“We have launched processes that are truly a paradigm shift. We must all realize that peace, freedom, prosperity and tolerance can no longer be taken for granted, they must be defended,” said Boris Pistorius.

Journalists also report that after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, German logistics companies have begun to cooperate more actively with the Bundeswehr. In particular, Fiege has created a separate unit to work with the military and emergency services.

Michael Quaden, head of the new division of Celerox Logistics Solutions GmbH, said that logistics is critically important for the army’s supply.

“Logistics is crucial. Political and military leaders must understand when to limit individual combat operations while at the same time providing the population with essential goods,” said Michael Quaden.

It was previously reported that the Russian Federation is moving from open threats to specific subversive actions on the territory of European states . At the same time, the countries of the European Union have encountered serious problems in trying to prepare their territory for a possible defense.

The Russian Defense Ministry recently published a list of companies located in Europe that allegedly produce and supply drones to Ukraine. Such a move, the press service of the ministry claims, will lead to an escalation of the military-political situation on the European continent and the transformation of these countries into Ukraine’s strategic rear.

Recall that the Kremlin is actively forming the psychological and informational basis for a possible future war against NATO. At the same time , Russia is creating a network of “Trojan horses” , buying up real estate near military bases of NATO countries, to launch a coordinated sabotage campaign. The Kremlin has also intensified its propaganda campaign regarding the creation of the “Narva People’s Republic” , which may indicate that the Kremlin is preparing to attack Estonia.
