Parubiy was on the Russian Federation’s liquidation list: why wasn’t the assassination attempt prevented?

Many questions arise for law enforcement agencies as to why the assassination attempt on former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy was not prevented. After all, Ukrainian special services were aware of the existence of the so-called “liquidation list” of the Russian Federation, which included the deceased.

This was reported on the air of “Pryamoy” by Dmytro Snegirev, a military-political analyst and co-chair of the public initiative “Prava sprava”.

“The Security Service of Ukraine periodically reports on prevented assassination attempts on certain politicians. But here is the second high-profile murder in Lviv, and these assassination attempts were not prevented. A question arises. Parubiy is the former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, accordingly, he is also in the field of view of the Russian special services. I do not exclude the possibility of local options. Therefore, the special services had to work out any possible options for physical liquidation. Especially since at one time the speaker of the parliament stated that Parubiy had been included by Russia in the so-called liquidation lists, it seems, of three people’s deputies. Therefore, there are enough questions to the Security Service of Ukraine,” Snegirev noted.

In addition, according to him, questions also arise regarding the State Security Department, if there was prior information that an attempt on Parubiy was being prepared.

“The explanation that security is provided to the former speaker only for a year, and then only by a corresponding decision, does not look convincing enough. If the current speaker stated from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada that Parubiy is on the “liquidation lists”, why was he not provided with state security? The issue should be considered by the Security Service of Ukraine,” the military-political analyst added.

“I am also on the “liquidation lists”, they are open. Moreover, I am listed there as the “curator of the SBU mercenary unit”. These are open lists. This is the tragedy of the situation. The Security Service of Ukraine understands perfectly well who can become the next target of the Russian special services. Here the question is not only for the State Security Department, but first of all for the SBU, if open sources report the possibility of the physical liquidation of a statesman,” emphasizes Dmytro Snegirev, co-chair of the public initiative “Prava sprava”.

As a reminder, on August 30, former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and MP from the European Solidarity party Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv. He was one of the symbols of resistance to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Later it became known that the shooter was being sought in the Lviv region, and a photo of the alleged killer was published on the Internet. According to eyewitnesses,the shooter was a courier from the Glovo service, who then hid the gun in his bag. A video of the moment of the murder of the MP also appeared on social networks.

In connection with this, a special operation “Siren” was announced in Lviv. The media instead reported that the police had allegedly already tracked down the criminal .

The leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, people’s deputies, the apparatus and its employees expressed condolences in connection with the murder of Andriy Parubiy, a people’s deputy of several convocations and the chairman of the parliament of the 8th convocation. European officials also commented on this crime, calling it terrible.

Later, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the murder of the People’s Deputy and former Speaker of the Parliament Andriy Parubiy was carefully prepared . According to him, the SBU is also involved in the investigation. The head of state also instructed to immediately provide the society with verified information.

Meanwhile, the European Solidarity faction made an official statement regarding the death of Andriy Parubiy. Colleagues and friends reacted to the murder, calling it cynical and cruel . “The murder of Andriy Parubiy is a shot in the heart of Ukraine ,” stressed the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
