The country’s political leadership is striving to hold the election process as soon as possible to preserve its chances of re-election. The incumbent president’s declining popularity is forcing his team to look for unconventional ways to win.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by public figure and former Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva.

“They believe that the sooner they hold the elections, the more chances they have for re-election, given that the only marathon has not yet finished its tonic effect on the brains of our voters,” he noted.

The guest drew an analogy with the 1996 Russian elections, recalling an anecdotal situation of a narrow victory. He believes that the CEC’s task today is to ensure a result that will allow Volodymyr Zelensky to bypass his competitors.

“That is, how to make Volodymyr Oleksandrovych gain 52% when his rivals gain 51%? That is the task of the Central Election Commission today. That is why they sit, muddle through and think, how to do it this way, how to calculate it this way,” Reva ironically says.

At the same time, he said, the situation is complicated by possible peace agreements and referendums, which could further undermine public trust. That is why the authorities are relying on the informational impact of the telethon while it still demonstrates effectiveness.

In addition, there is increasing pressure on opposition leaders in Ukraine, which may be part of a strategy to prepare for the presidential elections. The studio guest drew attention to the trials and sanctions against key political figures.

“The authorities will gradually try to knock their competitors out of this electoral field in order to clear the way for a second term for President Zelensky,” Reva emphasizes, recalling in particular that opposition leader Petro Poroshenko is under sanctions, which are aimed at minimizing competition in the political space.

At the same time, the public figure commented on the Supreme Court hearing on this case, where the presidential representative Lyudmila Pantyukhova, in his opinion, used delaying tactics. The case was postponed until March 6, which the former official sees as an attempt to extend the restrictions.

As a reminder, at the end of last year, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the people’s deputies to develop a bill on the possibility of holding elections during martial law. However, there are currently no bills or drafts in Ukraine that would regulate the holding of elections during wartime. Instead, the Verkhovna Rada is ready to prepare all necessary documents to ensure the democratic process even during hostilities.

In addition, as stated on the air of “Pryamoy” by the head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Oleksiy Koshel, the introduction of digital tools for expressing will could lead to a complete disruption of the electoral process in Ukraine and would become a kind of gift to the Kremlin . At the same time, organizing voting in conditions of constant missile strikes and drone attacks is a practically impossible task, the CVU added.

Meanwhile, the CEC has outlined key conditions for holding post-war elections in Ukraine. Preparations for them will take considerable time due to destroyed infrastructure and mass population displacement.
