The government redistributed an additional UAH 220 million from the special fund of the state budget at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense, directing funds to the needs of the security and defense sector.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
A corresponding order has already been approved at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
It is known that the funds will be distributed between three departments:
-
- The Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to allocate UAH 100 million for the National Guard for personnel training;
-
- The Ministry of Defense – for the development, procurement, modernization and repair of weapons and military equipment – UAH 70 million;
-
- The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense – for intelligence activities in the defense sector – UAH 50 million.
The purchases will include UAVs and their components, automotive and special equipment, electronic warfare equipment, as well as other logistical support for units.
In particular, these funds were generated as regulatory contributions from enterprises in the energy and utilities sectors. However, as of May 1, 2026, they had not been used by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NCRECU).
Article 46 of the Law on the State Budget for 2026 provides that the government may use these funds for defense.
Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on amendments to the state budget for 2026. The document provides for a significant increase in funding for the security and defense sector.
The Cabinet of Ministers also approved the Budget Declaration for 2027–2029 . The document provides for an increase in the minimum wage and social standards, and also forecasts economic growth in the next three years.
