Ukrainians will switch to winter time on the night of October 25: at 04:00, clocks will need to be set back one hour to 03:00. This will make the night an hour longer, but it may take a few days for the body to get used to the new regime.
This was reminded by the Ternopil Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention. They noted that the autumn transition to winter time is usually tolerated more easily than the spring one.
Most modern smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices will update the time automatically. Mechanical watches and some household appliances will need to be set manually.
How changing the clock affects sleep
An extra hour at night doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get a full hour of sleep right away. Your body needs time to adjust to your new routine.
The Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Ternopil Region, Oksana Chaychuk, emphasized that “changing the clock is a small, but still a change in the usual rhythm of life.”
“Our body is guided not only by the numbers on the clock, but primarily by the alternation of light and darkness, the time of sleep, nutrition, and physical activity,” she explained.
According to Chaychuk, after switching to winter time, it is worth giving the body a few days to adapt and ensuring sufficient rest.
“After switching to winter time, it is important to give the body a few days to adapt and especially take care of getting enough sleep,” the sanitary doctor emphasized.
To make it easier to get used to the new time, you should stick to your usual sleep schedule, not neglect rest, and maintain regularity in nutrition and physical activity.
